Atmosphere Change…

Things that can be changed in a classroom??   Almost everything!!  Where you sit and what you sit on, what’s on the walls, what the lighting is like, what the room smells like, what it sounds like….

Isn’t that a great looking 8th grade classroom??

….and the kids take notes on their phones…they text way faster than they write!!

Lovin’ change!  Kids definitely embrace it:))

Thankful Thursdays #36

What brings you joy, makes you happy, gives you peace? Here are some photos, quotes, and thoughts that make me joyful.

Joyful Thursdays #36

Here are three things that make me happy and bring me joy:

1) the coming of fall, my favorite season…sweatshirts and socks…and the beautiful, gorgeous autumn leaves in Michigan

2) a quote from Albert Einstein:

“The ideas that have lighted my way and, time after time, have given me new courage to face life cheerfully have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth.”

3) and another from Tatum Wiehahn:

“Be truthful in all you do. Be loving to all you meet. Be kind in all you share. Be humble for all you have. Be happy in all your circumstances. Be the kind of person that people can look up to.”

Kindness, beauty, and truth….they do lead to happiness! Have a great day and share it with others:)

Foiling the Tantrum

Do you use this method to ‘turn off the tantrum’ in your child????

I love this!!!

A few thoughts on tantrums:

Every child will try one, but not every child continues to have them. What might help make a difference?

A great start is having the child know that “No Means No” always and forever. There will be fewer opportunities for kicking, screaming, crying fits if the little one learns early on that mom and dad mean what they say. If you give in to your child’s demands you’re teaching them to convince you to change your mind…about anything and everything. It is sort of unfair to expect them to know which things you mean if you don’t stick to your guns!

That said,  when your kid does decide to throw a tantrum (and they will)…how do you choose to respond?  My choice…with humor. Don’t panic, don’t show anger or despair….instead tease, giggle, join in…whatever will change their focus from want, want, want to ha, ha, ha! Your humor needs to be fun, not humiliating….but if they want attention, give them the kind that gets YOU what you want and distracts them form what is causing the meltdown.   Timing, of course, is important….if you have messed up their schedule of food or sleep, humor may not work. But giving in to their demand is not fair to them in the long run…because they NEED you to set the boundaries and keep them.

Just my 2 cents worth….take it or leave it. Trying to bring more joy into the world, one child at a time:))

Meals on Wheels

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend…it is so beautiful today!!!

Do you all know how Meals on Wheels works?

This is what it is all about…helping seniors who are homebound! They receive a meal at lunchtime 5 days a week. They pay if they can…$3 a day, but if they can’t it is funded by the organization.

I deliver the meals only one day every other week, so many volunteers are used for MANY different routes. Now that I am familiar with my route I really enjoy it…seeing the same folks each time.

This is what the seniors get:

today's hot portion

stuffed shells and peas

the cold portion includes a fruit salad, a veggie salad, a slice of bread, and milk

this lovely lady organizes the meals into the correct cold and hot storage bags

these are the bags in my car ready to go!

Once I’m packed up, off I go to deliver meals to 12 seniors who live in houses, apartments, mobile homes, and condos. I like doing this and may volunteer a little more on my route if needed.

I hope you find things to do that help others and bring you happiness. Share these ideas with your kids!!

Joyful Thursdays #34

Here are three things that make me happy and bring me joy:

1) The absolutely gorgeous weather we have been having…lovely during the day, windows open and covered in blankets at night…ahhh…I feel a fall breeze coming. Here are some summer pretties!

2) ha, ha…to prove that our book club is not full of ‘book snobs’…we decided to read “Fifty Shades of Grey”!!!  The discussion was definitely hilarious….embarrassing, but funny:)    These shirts are only worn at book club…one of us chickened out and another was working….but the 3 of us thought we were brave even though the waitress at the restaurant looked down her nose at us telling us about her lofty literary choices….    here’s the proof of our bravery:)))

3) having the time to read…anytime and anywhere…I love to go to the metropark to read or the outside mall, people-watching while reading, or just in the back yard…the cooler weather makes it so enjoyable!

Enjoy your days…find time for fun, for you and your kids!
