Super Saturday #18

Hurray for Super Saturday #18…

Beautiful things, exciting things, inspiring ones…I’ll share with you those things that bring me joy and make me happy!

Here are three things that make me happy:

1) trying to decide if the cat is approving of my reading material or keeping me from reading it:)))

2) enjoying the pouring rain from inside the house…curled up, reading…if the cat allows it…, watching mindless TV  -  all just because I can!   A definite perk of being retired!!

3) having a lovely little lady on the Meals on Wheels route say to me, ” Dear, I love your hair. It makes me happy!”  Isn’t that the sweetest thing to hear???

Book Time

Our book club met to discuss The Orphan Train. We all really liked it…and discovered that there will be a discussion about the actual Michigan orphan trains in Clarkston next month! How exciting! We will meet there for dinner and discussion of our next book, The Language of Flowers, and then on to the library to hear what we hope will be a very interesting talk on the 12,000 children who rode the orphan train from New York to Michigan from the 1850′s to 1929! Overall, more than 200,000 orphans rode these trains from New York to cities in the Midwest. Amazing stories…both good and bad!

My most recent ‘read’ was a new book in a series of 7 written by a 21 year old!! The book is The Bone Season, another dystopian novel about young people. It’s a slow-starter, but definitely becomes interesting!

Yesterday was a beautiful day for reading outside…so that’s just what I did!!! I’m reading an old novel by Jonathan Kellerman…’Bones’….it’s a good book, especially reading in the sunshine and breeze!

Books are my thing!! I love to read….mostly non-intellectual books (sorry to disappoint you, but I’m a mystery, legal, medical thriller type of girl). I read for pleasure mostly and only occasionally for learning:)))

What are you reading??

Super Saturday #16

Hurray for Super Saturday #16…

Beautiful things, exciting things, inspiring ones…I’ll share with you those things that bring me joy and make me happy!

Here are three things that make me happy:

1) I’m so lucky!!! Shannon invited me to join her and her mom and gramma to look at wedding dresses! She is such a beauty that every dress looked wonderful on her. We had so much fun and excitement.

2) Lauren works near our first appointment so she met us for lunch where Shannon asked her to be a bridesmaid!!

The two of them are obviously beautiful on the outside, but their insides are even so much more beautiful. They shared lovely, sentimental messages with each other that made me so proud to have them be a part of our family. Bottom line…they make my guys happy, so they make me happy, too!

3) …and, yes, I do have just a few more wedding photos…can’t help it, I love them!!

I do preach happiness, don’t I??  Well, I’m loving the happiness all around me:)

Have a wonderful day!!!

Weather Shift!

Michigan weather…sometimes awesome, sometimes terrible, but usually weird!! For example:

Temperature now= 97!!

High on Friday= 61!

That is quite a difference, right?  So today, I turned on the window air conditioner since 75 degrees at 3AM is a little too warm for open windows! But early morning Friday will be 45!!! Definitely no air conditioner needed!!!

Enjoy whatever the weather may be ‘in your neck of the woods’…:)

The Story of the Ring

On Saturday’s post I mentioned the emotional story of the ring….

So now…for the story:

Chad, the groom’s brother, and Lauren, the bride-to-be, came up with a plan for Scott’s wedding ring that would have meaning and an emotional impact on all of us!! We gave Lauren the CMU class ring that belonged to F2 ( the groom’s dad and our everything…who died in ’96). She found someone who would melt it down and incorporate it…and the gold from her great-grandmother’s earrings…into the metal of the ring. So the ring now represents the melding of the families forever. Chad then designed an inscription for the inside of the ring….a play on F2′s signature with an initial D hidden there for me, and a line around the entire inside of the ring for a continuing signature. Lauren wrote a MOST beautiful letter to Scott which she was going to read to him at the rehearsal dinner…couldn’t do it, she had to ask Scott to read it out loud to everyone, while she sniffled emotionally in the background….actually everyone was sniffling in the background. They have a wonderfully emotional group of friends who appreciate the sentimental!!

Lauren showed me the ring at one of the showers…

beautiful

Scott will wear this very special ring for very special occasions….since he also received an every day ring for bumming around!!!

Scott was so amazed and in awe of the sentimentality that went into making this ring!! I loved watching him watching Lauren…with LOVE in his eyes:))) It was so special. He said it was the best surprise he’s ever had…sigh:))

LOVE MY FAMILY SO MUCH!!!
