A Great Day

Finally a sunny fall day in Michigan!!!

It was a lovely day for completing tasks…for a change :)

I managed to make some pralines…from my mom’s written recipe!!

Then I had time to have the oil in the car changed and the tires rotated. After having the inside and outside of the car cleaned….I felt like I had a brand new car!!

This doesn’t sound like much, but sunshine leads to bursts of energy for me…while the rain and gloom we have had lately leads me to TV and books! Not that that’s a bad thing ;)

Loving the sun!

A lovely beginning to our cruise…

First we spent time in the Black Forest region…including learning how to make Black Forest cake….and eating it!!

Back on the ship cruising along to Strasbourg:

Strasbourg, in France, across the river from Kehl, Germany is a beautiful city!

beautiful flowers everywhere

an homage to the Declaration of Independence

an impromptu bus choir singing in front of the cathedral

And then into the back roads of wine country for a wine tasting!

50 Years of Friendship

I had an Alpha Chi reunion at my house this week….12 beautiful ladies who I have known since the ’60′s!!!!  It is amazing how the friendships made in college have such a lasting impact! We rarely see each other…for one of us it’s been since 1969…but we revert instantly to silliness and joy as if we had seen each other every week since then!

So excuse a couple of the ‘hilarious’ photos of us having fun!!

Here are a couple of previous reunion photos:

Love you, Alpha Chi Sisters!!

Sunshiny Sunday #7 ?? Sort of…

Instead of a normal Sunshiny Sunday, I thought I’d return to the cruise from the fall…

Because it’s now March, maybe exploring Ireland would be a good idea…so for today, we took an excursion called “Irish for a Day”.  Our Princess Cruise ship arrived in Dublin:

an Irish Ferry complete with a shamrock!

We headed by bus out of Dublin about an hour to a farm where we were greeted with coffee and scones before learning to make our own Irish soda bread…

our Irish friend is standing on a table giving us our directions :)

hmmm, not bad…

Then we had a hay ride on a wagon to a peat bog…which is now protected a lot like our wetlands are…

the bog, with beautiful heather just beginning to bloom

The turf, which was used for heating, takes millions of years to grow…millimeters at a time! Amazing!

The weather was cooperating at this point!!

After returning to the barn, we got to milk the cows before heading in for lunch.

Lunch was delicious… a vegetable puree soup and then ham, potatoes, cabbage, and carrots along with our very own soda bread and butter. We finished with apple pie for dessert!!

Doesn't it look good?

After lunch we headed to the barn to learn some authentic Irish dances..sorry, no time for pictures…we were too out of breath :)  We also learned how to play the bowron…a drum!

This guy taught us the dances, and yes…everyone participated!! See the drums along the back wall?

We saw Cannemara ponies…very pretty and gentle!

We finished the day watching the sheepherder and his dog herding the sheep. The dog was having so much fun. He didn’t want to stop when the sheepherder was trying to train the next young pup!

What an amazing day in the Irish countryside!! Thank you to the owners of the Causey Farm for inviting us to join them for the day. As an added piece of wonderment…the day ended with this rainbow! …Which became a double rainbow and followed us all the way back to the ship!! Sigh! Who needs reality??!!

look closely for the double rainbow!

It’s too bad pictures can never show the true beauty of real life, but they are a good way to trigger your most beautiful memories!

Sunshiny Sunday #5

Here again are three things that make me happy, bring me joy, and give me peace!!

1) My Mom and my friends…together:

…isn’t she amazing??

2) My dad’s Prisoner of War book from WWII

any ideas on how to preserve the book and all the letters home??

3)…and, of course, baby girl…

Isn't she just the sweetest thing?

More to come next week…hope you’re enjoying the Super Bowl!!

Sunshiny Sunday #4

Here are three things that make me happy, bring me joy, and keep me positive:

1) Giving blood in a blood drive….before and during: NO! That does not make me happy at all. I really don’t like giving blood. But…after I am done, I am so happy that I have contributed to someone else’s health and happiness.

2) These 5 beauties give me so much joy! They took me out for my birthday to a new restaurant…delicious! And a very needed gift that I would have procrastinated on doing myself!!  They are so smart :)

3) My little cutie in all her glory:

rocking her sunglasses

driving around in her 'ride'

checking out her 'kicks'

:) :) How's that for a pose??? Ha, Haa!!!

Loving my life….find the happy in yours and enjoy it!!

Sunshiny Sundays #2

Sunshiny Sundays #2…here we go!!

Here are three things that bring me joy, make me happy, and encourage the positive side of me:

1)  spending time in a 7th grade classroom doing Egyptian projects with C…fun!!

they are working hard…see the pyramids and sarcophagus??

weighing the heart ceremony..

items that might go in a tomb…

All six groups did a fantastic job…way to go 7th graders!!

2) Love this egg cooker…makes hard boiled eggs….easy to peel hard boiled eggs…amazing!!

see???? perfect!!

3)  ….and always, sweet baby girl:

hanging out with her puppy!

uh, oh…she thinks Daniel Tiger is hilarious!!

I hope you are all finding your joy….keep it up!!
