The Important Things

The important things in life…at least in mine:

LOVE… all kinds, loving yourself enough to let the negatives gooooo, loving others…family and friends, old and young. Love without judging…believe in all possibilities. Use introspection to discover who you love and why…love with awesomeness!!

KNOWLEDGE: Learning…all kinds, what works – mechanically and emotionally, curiosity in all areas, not just books…but people, ideas, thoughts of your own and others, responsibility for accomplishing success in whatever area you want…

KINDNESS: kindness to yourself and others is all about respect, thinking about what you are about to say or do to see if it’s necessary and/or kind…thinking and believing in your own ability to be the good person you’d like to be. Kindness is all-encompassing…and a beautiful thing!

and finally, HAPPINESS: some folks will say that this is just pie-in-the-sky garbage because you can’t plan on happiness…but, I say, phooey on that notion!! I believe in looking for the positive instead of the negative…will the negative be there? Sure! But if I focus on the positive I believe I will find more happiness…whether you call that peace, joy, gratitude…If I smile more and choose to be happy as much as possible, I believe I will have that joy I’m always looking for!! Pollyanna??? Yup…that’s who I want to be :)

So for me, today, these are the important things!!  Think of yours and embrace them!!

18 years since my heart was broken into pieces…but he is never really gone if my heart glued itself back together with beautiful memories…

Believing…makes all the difference…he is still with me, with all of us…bringing us joy and peace, if that is what we choose!

I choose my sweet Fred..always and forever!

Believing in the Magic of Christmas!

An original post from 3 years ago…do I still believe these words?? Absolutely! Have fun with your young ones…which will lead to fun with your kids as they grow older…

So…do you believe in Santa?

Come on, Santa, smile!!

That is always the question, isn’t it? Is there really a Santa Claus? How do you answer your children’s questions – blow it off, ignore it, answer from the head or from the heart?

We wanted our boys to enjoy those light-hearted, magical beliefs as long as possible. I still believe in Santa…the spirit of a giving soul expecting nothing in return! Shouldn’t we all be more like that “Jolly Old Elf”???

If your conversations with your children can begin to focus more on the gifts Santa gives to everyone else, how kind and industrious he is – it may help your children to develop some of those helpful characteristics in their own lives. Santa letters, Santa cookies to give to others, special Santa wrapping paper and bows, trips to see Santa, watching TV specials — how can that be wrong?

peeking!!!

Make sure your child knows what you believe. You do believe in that loving spirit, don’t you? If you’re confident in what you want for your children in the way of believing or not, then no remarks by kids at school or by crabby relatives can shake them from those beliefs.

a present from Santa :)

The light and sparkle in your kids’ eyes should not be extinguished just because others may think your children are too old to believe in Santa. Hold on to what you want for your own kids. Chad and Scott never thought that we had lied to them when they were young but that believing in the spirit of Christmas continues into adulthood.

I believe in Santa, do you?

Super Saturday #28

Hurray for Super Saturday #28…

Beautiful things, exciting things, inspiring ones…I’ll share with you those things that bring me joy and make me happy!

Here are three things that make me happy:

1) a working fireplace…thank you, Chad:)

2) Christmas tree and our ornaments:

old handmade and new beautiful...all mixed up!

can you see Yoda and ET?

sand dollars and Roxy prints:)

...from F2's childhood...

mixed bag...love 'em!

3) a beautiful Willow Tree nativity set…a wonderful gift in the past couple of years:

only a portion of the set...

Because the 3 of us left town for Christmas after F2′s death in ’96 and continued to leave for Christmas for many years, all the Christmas decorations stayed in their boxes. When we decided we could handle being home again, the ornaments brought sweet and wonderful memories back for all of us. Now, we love to see them and talk about each one. C even asked that I write a list of ornaments and how we got them or what they meant…great idea, right?  So instead, I took photos of them in groups that could be described…hope they make sense!

Appreciate what you have for Christmas and make as many memories as you can…  they will light up your lives forever:))

Holiday ‘Presence’

Ideas for creating that joy on Christmas morning that we all are longing for….  past post #2:

Now that your children’s gifts to others are taken care of … see previous post… what do you want to do about their gifts from you and from Santa?

If your kids know that you buy them some gifts that you want to be surprises for them, you can give them some tips about not looking around for presents because of the chance of “wrecking the surprise”. If they can learn to delay gratification and wait for surprises, their Christmas mornings will be sooo exciting, and they will have developed a useful character trait.

If they’re not looking for your gifts, they won’t ‘accidentally’ find Santa’s gifts!!!

I had always thought that Chad and Scott didn’t snoop when Christmas came around because they liked to be surprised. Wrong!! I just discovered that…instead… they were nervous that if they found  surprise gifts we wouldn’t let them have them!! I’m sure we never said that exactly, but they could tell from our voices that snooping was not a good thing.

If you want Santa to last…always keep separate wrapping paper, labels, bows – only to be used by Santa. At our house, Santa wrapped some gifts and left others unwrapped by the tree – and other unwrapped trinkets in the Christmas stockings. Last minute wrapping of Santa’s gifts is always a great idea.

It’s less confusing if all family gifts are wrapped ahead of time with the whole family involved (and in our house put away until Christmas Eve). So all you need to be concerned with on Christmas Eve after the children go to bed is wrapping Santa’s gifts and arranging the presents under the tree.

whether the presents are wrapped by Mom and Dad
or by Santa
or left unwrapped by Santa
or packages from friends and families

Make sure your kids appreciate each gift individually. More to come in Part 3!!

If you do appreciate the idea of giving, whether through Santa or through another avenue, planning ahead of time is always important. Family values come first!!

Super Saturday #16

Hurray for Super Saturday #16…

Beautiful things, exciting things, inspiring ones…I’ll share with you those things that bring me joy and make me happy!

Here are three things that make me happy:

1) I’m so lucky!!! Shannon invited me to join her and her mom and gramma to look at wedding dresses! She is such a beauty that every dress looked wonderful on her. We had so much fun and excitement.

2) Lauren works near our first appointment so she met us for lunch where Shannon asked her to be a bridesmaid!!

The two of them are obviously beautiful on the outside, but their insides are even so much more beautiful. They shared lovely, sentimental messages with each other that made me so proud to have them be a part of our family. Bottom line…they make my guys happy, so they make me happy, too!

3) …and, yes, I do have just a few more wedding photos…can’t help it, I love them!!

I do preach happiness, don’t I??  Well, I’m loving the happiness all around me:)

Have a wonderful day!!!

Summer Fun??

Now that the kiddies are home for the summer….have some fun with them!! And use those teachable moments along the way…

A quote from Billy Graham makes perfect sense to me:

“A child who is allowed to be disrespectful to his parents will not have true respect for anyone.”
