In case you hadn’t heard….

We are totally surprised with the number of new blog readers:  wow! thanks, everyone, for joining us on our journey. For those of you lovely folks who have been with us for some time, you know we talk about those things that make us happy…and joyful parenting! So, just in case you new readers didn’t know about our parenting book: How to Break 10 Common Childhood Myths …

Here it is  :)

Chad (son) and Diane (mom) wrote the book together to help parents find easier ways to have children who are delightful, respectful, responsible, and eventually independent adults! There are 10 common misbeliefs that kids grab onto and keep forever without a parent’s guide to let go of them. We included lots of stories from our lives…in both of our voices!

Feel free to head to Amazon to find our pretty little book in paperback or on Kindle. It is also available online through Barnes and Noble. It does make a great gift for new parents or grandparents, but also for those with kids anywhere from age 1-18.

For any of you delightful people who already bought one…we express a huge thank you to you. We hope you found the book helpful and enjoyable. Feel free to express your thoughts, good or bad, for others to see.

Christmas gifts anyone??  This is a plug for the book not because of our making any money but because of our love for kids and our hopes for improving future generations!

Super Saturday #18

Hurray for Super Saturday #18…

Beautiful things, exciting things, inspiring ones…I’ll share with you those things that bring me joy and make me happy!

Here are three things that make me happy:

1) trying to decide if the cat is approving of my reading material or keeping me from reading it:)))

2) enjoying the pouring rain from inside the house…curled up, reading…if the cat allows it…, watching mindless TV  -  all just because I can!   A definite perk of being retired!!

3) having a lovely little lady on the Meals on Wheels route say to me, ” Dear, I love your hair. It makes me happy!”  Isn’t that the sweetest thing to hear???

Book Time

Our book club met to discuss The Orphan Train. We all really liked it…and discovered that there will be a discussion about the actual Michigan orphan trains in Clarkston next month! How exciting! We will meet there for dinner and discussion of our next book, The Language of Flowers, and then on to the library to hear what we hope will be a very interesting talk on the 12,000 children who rode the orphan train from New York to Michigan from the 1850′s to 1929! Overall, more than 200,000 orphans rode these trains from New York to cities in the Midwest. Amazing stories…both good and bad!

My most recent ‘read’ was a new book in a series of 7 written by a 21 year old!! The book is The Bone Season, another dystopian novel about young people. It’s a slow-starter, but definitely becomes interesting!

Yesterday was a beautiful day for reading outside…so that’s just what I did!!! I’m reading an old novel by Jonathan Kellerman…’Bones’….it’s a good book, especially reading in the sunshine and breeze!

Books are my thing!! I love to read….mostly non-intellectual books (sorry to disappoint you, but I’m a mystery, legal, medical thriller type of girl). I read for pleasure mostly and only occasionally for learning:)))

What are you reading??

An Interview

I decided to do an interview for 'The Sowell
    an Alabama bloggers' forum:
    1. What part of the state do you call home?

I live in Michigan now, but I did live in Huntsville from 6th grade through high school and then back to Michigan for college.

I2. How long have you been blogging?

I started blogging in October of 2010.

3. Why did you start blogging?

The blog started as an extension of parenting ideas used in our workshops and book…How to Break 10 Common Childhood Myths…and it has continued as a way to spread happiness and joy in the lives of adults and children.

4. What is your favorite part of being a member of the Alabama Women Bloggers community?

I guess that would be weird since I am a Michigan blogger, but blogging is international, isn’t it?!

5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Enjoying my life, helping others, being with family and friends.

6. If you could choose an actress to play you in your life, who would you choose and why?

Sandra Bullock…just because I like her as an actress and as a person (at least from what is assumed to be true about her).

7. Name 5 things on your Bucket List that you hope you’ll check off before you die?

1-seeing both my boys happy and married with wonderful families, 2-finding avenues to help others, 3-visit Tahiti or some other Polynesian island, 4-I could revisit Hawaii a million times and I’d never tire of it, 5-continue to find the good and positive in people and events…recognize the good in the universe.

8. If you could be known for one thing, what would it be and why?

Being a positive and encouraging person…bring a light to others

9. Describe the best moment in your life.

Being married to my college sweetheart and having my 2 sweetie-pies with him

10. If you could “be” anything (no consequences, no fear), what would you “be”?

a parenting expert giving workshops and talks

11. What or who inspires you to blog?

“A Spot of Whimsy” got me started for the beauty in her blogs and now I’m inspired to continue sharing positive messages to anyone who wants to see them.

12. We’re headed to your neck of the woods… what restaurant would you recommend?

In Alabama, Jim and Nick’s would be a favorite of mine too…always stopped there on our way from Michigan to Gulf Shores for spring break. In Michigan, Mr. Paul’s Chophouse is a wonderful steakhouse.

13. What’s a southern tradition you and your family have?

Instilling beautiful manners into children….I saw many great manners being used in the south.

14. If you could pick your favorite blog post from your blog this year, what would it be?

The post that I revisit each year is my Grief post….tells my story, in a nutshell.

15. We all love social media, tell us your links so we can visit. and a personal facebook page, Linked in and google+

Are there other questions you have for me? I’d be happy to share:)))

Here are my favorite people…family, friends, sweetie-pies!

Super Saturday #4

Hurray for Super Saturday #4…

Beautiful things, exciting things, inspiring ones…I’ll share with you those things that bring me joy and make me happy!

1) leaves and plants growing green .. that amazing spring-time green

2) completing a particular task….writing invitations, affixing labels, buying supplies….any task that can be checked off the list…magic!!

3) for those of you who have loved reading Robert B. Parker books for many years and have been saddened by his death…take heart!! The author who has been given permission to use his name by his estate…Ace Atkins, does a fantastic job using the same familiar characters and the same sarcastic humor we have become used to. The latest book, “Wonderland”, feels just like a Robert B. Parker Spenser book.   Love it:)))

Thank You, MOPs!!

Last night Chad and I spoke at a MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) meeting in Macomb. What a great bunch of ladies!!! Lots of fun, lots of discussion, and hopefully for them lots of hints! A couple of little ones were there to add to the atmosphere…baby talk is always welcome:))

This is what we love to do, so let us know if you’d like us to come speak to your group…

talking about family life is what it's all about:)

we actually sold some of these last night!!

Finding ways to share our message is always important to us. The meeting last night helped to invigorate us with some new energy…so  thank you very much MOPs:)

lovin' them when they're little and lovin' them when they're bigger!
