Sharing

My dad, Robert Gordon Horn, was a veteran of WWII.

in the service in the early 40's

His mom, my grandmother..Maud Jowett Horn…kept this service record from the time he entered the service until he finished:

this contained photos, a record of all correspondence sent and received from my dad, and newspapers articles

My dad was a member of the Army Air Corps (before there was an air force) as a bombardier:

my dad, far left first row, with his flight crew

My parents were married in June of 1943 and in January of 1944 my dad was sent overseas.

before being deployed

He was shot down over Germany in Feb. and was missing in action for all of the 6 weeks of lent. On Good Friday, my mom was notified that he was alive and a prisoner of war in Germany. He was a captive there for 15 months before he returned home at the end of the war. He was one of the lucky ones to survive the action of World War II.

Luckily my dad was able to come home and begin our family:)  He served our country and should be remembered for that. But he also served our family until his sudden death from a heart attack when he was only 44. We remember him today….

Honor all those who have served in the past and those who are continuing to do a huge service to all of us who live in this great, though sometimes flawed, country. God Bless You!

Gratitudes

Well, I haven’t been on here for a few weeks, not because I don’t care but because I do!!!  I don’t want to leave you with inconsequentials or silliness or any kind of negativity…so I thought and thought about what you might like to hear! My response was…hmmm, I have no idea:))) So, I am back to what I love! I have had Happiness Tuesdays, Thankful Thursdays, and Super Saturdays in the past, and I did love sharing with you things that make me happy. I am still going to share those kinds of things with you but without the label…I am trying not to categorize myself too much!!

The main object causing me infinite happiness these days is the adorable granddaughter…3 months old and a delight! How perfect is it to be able to watch your son’s little girl 2 days a week… I’ll tell you: Perfectly perfect!!

newborn sweetness

And many more perfectly perfect photos of the little one:

she says, "seriously, another picture???"

This little sweetie will be keeping me happy for years to come!!!

And here is my cat, thinking he is much smaller than he actually is, sleeping in a shoe box!!

Finally, my philosophy, in a nutshell:

Loving life because life is good!!!

The Grands…

How about an up-date on these two lovely people??

smiling at the rehab center

When we visited Carl today he was happy as a clam! We gave him a cheese biscuit from Red Lobster…took him a minute before he decided he liked it, but then…yum!

Grabbing the hand of his ‘sweetie-pie’….while holding on to that biscuit!

Mom gave Carl this Jamaica hat to wear instead of the LA cap he wouldn’t give up…he says it’s ‘ok’…

Mom is back home in her condo now continuing to improve from hip surgery after a fall. She spent 3 1/2 months in the rehab with Carl for therapy…lots of pain, but they spent much of every day together and enjoyed that!

She has a wonderful neighbor who is keeping tabs on her and helping her with things she can’t yet handle on her own.

wonderful Irene

She has amazed everyone with her recovery!!!  94 and hanging in there!!

We went to happy hour for snacks and a bit of bingo…yup, I said bingo ;)

Carl took this photo for us :)

Here Mom is, looking feisty…using her walker in the house and a cane and someone’s arm outside the house.

We are all very proud of her hard work in doing way better than anyone thought she could! Now, if we can just get her to slow down and take the advice of the professionals…we could rest a little easier!!

Way to go, Mom!!

Never Forgotten…

It is hard to believe…

18 years since my heart was broken into pieces…but he is never really gone if my heart glued itself back together with beautiful memories…

Believing…makes all the difference…he is still with me, with all of us…bringing us joy and peace, if that is what we choose!

I choose my sweet Fred..always and forever!

Out to celebrate life tonight, with the TLG…toasting memories with our B52′s….

Love you, my sweetie!

In case you hadn’t heard….

We are totally surprised with the number of new blog readers:  wow! thanks, everyone, for joining us on our journey. For those of you lovely folks who have been with us for some time, you know we talk about those things that make us happy…and joyful parenting! So, just in case you new readers didn’t know about our parenting book: How to Break 10 Common Childhood Myths …

Here it is  :)

Chad (son) and Diane (mom) wrote the book together to help parents find easier ways to have children who are delightful, respectful, responsible, and eventually independent adults! There are 10 common misbeliefs that kids grab onto and keep forever without a parent’s guide to let go of them. We included lots of stories from our lives…in both of our voices!

Feel free to head to Amazon to find our pretty little book in paperback or on Kindle. It is also available online through Barnes and Noble. It does make a great gift for new parents or grandparents, but also for those with kids anywhere from age 1-18.

For any of you delightful people who already bought one…we express a huge thank you to you. We hope you found the book helpful and enjoyable. Feel free to express your thoughts, good or bad, for others to see.

Christmas gifts anyone??  This is a plug for the book not because of our making any money but because of our love for kids and our hopes for improving future generations!

Then and Now

Hawaii…ahhh, beautiful, amazing, uplifting! Can you tell that Hawaii is one of my favorite places in the world?

My hubby and I first went to Hawaii in ’72 and again in ’74…I know, I know…I must be ancient:)))  We absolutely loved everything about that beautiful place.

I did not go again…life got busy and family came first…until I decided to take my boys in 1999, after their dad died. I took my two with their best friends when they were 18, 19, 19, and 20. It was a gift to myself, remembering all the fun …because memories are one of the biggest gifts we can give ourselves!

It was such a pleasure to watch those boys enjoy Hawaii as much as F2 and I had.  Then, in 2004, I took my 2 guys again to just vegetate in Waikiki…beach time, sunshine, good food, and wonderful people!!

And now we just returned from a most delightful trip to Hawaii…my sons, and THEIR WIVES!!!  Hurray! They are all the best people in the world! Kind, compassionate, fun loving and positive! My guys really know how to pick them!!!

I am over the moon excited to spend time with them whenever I can..but to be able to share my favorite place with them was awesome, delightful, fantastic and every other positive adjective you can come up with. Love ‘em all!!!

So here we go with the ‘then and now’ of photos…some are from slides from the first 2 trips so the quality may be shaky, but we’re working on memories here folks. It’s all good! Mixed up…old and new photos from Hawaii! Enjoy!!

some new…

some more old…

…and new…

yes…this is the same banyan tree!!!

and now…

I hope you enjoyed this small sampling of my Hawaiian memories!!
