Talk about a blessing…I am so lucky!!

Enjoy those little ones!

Catching Up

I was recently reminded that some of my family…both sons…are not on FaceBook and therefor are not seeing some of the family photos that I have posted! So, because of my dereliction of duties…here are some pics that I have scanned from 27 boxes of slide trays from the 60′s, 70′s, and 80′s.  Don’t worry, they’re not all here :)  Just a few pics, mostly from the 60′s!

Have fun!!

This particular slide is from 1946!!!! ...of yours truly!

a picture of family, from the 50's...yikes!

Sunshiny Sundays #1

You are right…I have been lax in the blog world for over a month!! I have been enjoying the holidays immensely!!

Now, in order to keep myself on track, I will return to posting things that make me happy and bring me joy. I have done Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays…so now, let’s try Sunshiny Sundays.

Here are three things that bring me joy, make me happy, and encourage the positive side of me:

1) Sunshiny days whether warm or cold,  hot or cool…if the day is sunny, I love it!!

2) Boys and girls that are filled with love…fill me with love.

Aren’t they adorable???

3) And….always, the beautiful baby girl who made me a gramma:

I hope you find happiness on this lovely Sunday morning :)

Wine Tasting…with a Baby !!

This past weekend my darling family treated me to a family wine tasting tour in the Traverse City area. Two sons, two daughters-in-love, one adorable granddaughter, and me…exciting adventure for all!! We left on Thursday and returned on Sunday. This was a Christmas gift for me from the kids, and what a treat it was!!! They are all so much fun to be with!

a beautiful sunny day with my loves!!

They rented a lovely house in Leland, a block from town and a block from the beach…perfect!!

Sharing

My dad, Robert Gordon Horn, was a veteran of WWII.

in the service in the early 40's

His mom, my grandmother..Maud Jowett Horn…kept this service record from the time he entered the service until he finished:

this contained photos, a record of all correspondence sent and received from my dad, and newspapers articles

My dad was a member of the Army Air Corps (before there was an air force) as a bombardier:

my dad, far left first row, with his flight crew

My parents were married in June of 1943 and in January of 1944 my dad was sent overseas.

before being deployed

He was shot down over Germany in Feb. and was missing in action for all of the 6 weeks of lent. On Good Friday, my mom was notified that he was alive and a prisoner of war in Germany. He was a captive there for 15 months before he returned home at the end of the war. He was one of the lucky ones to survive the action of World War II.

Luckily my dad was able to come home and begin our family:)  He served our country and should be remembered for that. But he also served our family until his sudden death from a heart attack when he was only 44. We remember him today….

Honor all those who have served in the past and those who are continuing to do a huge service to all of us who live in this great, though sometimes flawed, country. God Bless You!

Sweet Memories of Carl

This wonderful man married my mother 46 years ago…within 2 months of my marriage to F and my brother’s marriage to his wife….long lasting togetherness!

He has been known for his ‘stories’…retold with joy again and again, his love for his friends and family, and his great love for his church and his God. I am glad to know he is now in a peaceful, joyful place joining others who he loves.

with his sweetie pie…I love this picture!

look at that great smile

with my boys and their girls…now husbands and wives

he loved his hats :)

a bunch of his family...

another hat...

he 'inherited' lots of different members to his family

yup, another hat and a great smile!!

this is his favorite

with me, out in the Florida sunshine...

…and older..

aren't they cute??

2 honeys gone :(

Many of the family photos I have… wound up in a CVS folder and made into a book for Carl, but now I can’t easily retrieve them…so those of you who didn’t know Carl can be grateful I’m about done. BUT those of you who did know him, know that I would post a bucketful more if I thought it would help us in our grieving process. I posted what I found on my computer…didn’t leave anyone out on purpose…just couldn’t find more right now!!

So…as Carl would say…ADIOS!

with love and happy memories,

Diane

The Important Things

The important things in life…at least in mine:

LOVE… all kinds, loving yourself enough to let the negatives gooooo, loving others…family and friends, old and young. Love without judging…believe in all possibilities. Use introspection to discover who you love and why…love with awesomeness!!

KNOWLEDGE: Learning…all kinds, what works – mechanically and emotionally, curiosity in all areas, not just books…but people, ideas, thoughts of your own and others, responsibility for accomplishing success in whatever area you want…

KINDNESS: kindness to yourself and others is all about respect, thinking about what you are about to say or do to see if it’s necessary and/or kind…thinking and believing in your own ability to be the good person you’d like to be. Kindness is all-encompassing…and a beautiful thing!

and finally, HAPPINESS: some folks will say that this is just pie-in-the-sky garbage because you can’t plan on happiness…but, I say, phooey on that notion!! I believe in looking for the positive instead of the negative…will the negative be there? Sure! But if I focus on the positive I believe I will find more happiness…whether you call that peace, joy, gratitude…If I smile more and choose to be happy as much as possible, I believe I will have that joy I’m always looking for!! Pollyanna??? Yup…that’s who I want to be :)

So for me, today, these are the important things!!  Think of yours and embrace them!!
