Sunshiny Sunday #4

Here are three things that make me happy, bring me joy, and keep me positive:

1) Giving blood in a blood drive….before and during: NO! That does not make me happy at all. I really don’t like giving blood. But…after I am done, I am so happy that I have contributed to someone else’s health and happiness.

2) These 5 beauties give me so much joy! They took me out for my birthday to a new restaurant…delicious! And a very needed gift that I would have procrastinated on doing myself!!  They are so smart :)

3) My little cutie in all her glory:

rocking her sunglasses

driving around in her 'ride'

checking out her 'kicks'

:) :) How's that for a pose??? Ha, Haa!!!

Loving my life….find the happy in yours and enjoy it!!

The Important Things

The important things in life…at least in mine:

LOVE… all kinds, loving yourself enough to let the negatives gooooo, loving others…family and friends, old and young. Love without judging…believe in all possibilities. Use introspection to discover who you love and why…love with awesomeness!!

KNOWLEDGE: Learning…all kinds, what works – mechanically and emotionally, curiosity in all areas, not just books…but people, ideas, thoughts of your own and others, responsibility for accomplishing success in whatever area you want…

KINDNESS: kindness to yourself and others is all about respect, thinking about what you are about to say or do to see if it’s necessary and/or kind…thinking and believing in your own ability to be the good person you’d like to be. Kindness is all-encompassing…and a beautiful thing!

and finally, HAPPINESS: some folks will say that this is just pie-in-the-sky garbage because you can’t plan on happiness…but, I say, phooey on that notion!! I believe in looking for the positive instead of the negative…will the negative be there? Sure! But if I focus on the positive I believe I will find more happiness…whether you call that peace, joy, gratitude…If I smile more and choose to be happy as much as possible, I believe I will have that joy I’m always looking for!! Pollyanna??? Yup…that’s who I want to be :)

So for me, today, these are the important things!!  Think of yours and embrace them!!

Intentions instead of Resolutions

For those of you who have been hanging around our blog for a few years, you know that I have been doing a list of intentions’ rather than ‘resolutions’ for a couple of reasons:

1. the stress involved in trying to complete resolutions leads to feeling bad instead of feeling positive…doesn’t really go along with my ‘mantra’!!

and

2. intentions can easily be ongoing…so when you complete them you can feel successful, when you start you can feel successful, and anywhere along the way you can feel successful….much easier to adjust or even cancel as you, yourself, change.

In the past, some of the things I have completed include:

having the piano tuned and taking piano lessons

completing 3 quilts made from F2′s tshirts

organizing photos, both digital and print

finding photos like these and being able to make folders online

cleaning specific areas of the house, like the garage and the basement

finding treasures

needed cleaning, right?

doing as many philanthropic endeavors as possible..love them!!

Anyway, now my list of intentions becomes more mental than physical…I want to help my kids in any way that I can, including caring for the new grand baby in my life!! I don’t think I need to write any of that down…because I love every part of it :) :)

Most definitely, Happy Parenting!

Teacher Friends….

For all of my teacher friends out there….HANG IN THERE!!!

As a retired teacher, I have huge compassion and appreciation for all that you do and/or are trying to do.

Today’s overpowering reliance on conformity and data accountability gives me ‘the shivers’…

In ‘honor’ of all those in-services that are supposed to give you info on things you don’t want or don’t need to enhance your kids’ knowledge and excitement about learning:

some expressions for you…

I have to get out of bed for a workshop???

I'm supposed to do what??

Let me tell you what I think!!

Oh, you're killin' me!!!

I do not agree!

phssewww…with raspberries!

Love these expressions…I may have even seen them on teachers I know  :)  :)

In case you hadn’t heard….

We are totally surprised with the number of new blog readers:  wow! thanks, everyone, for joining us on our journey. For those of you lovely folks who have been with us for some time, you know we talk about those things that make us happy…and joyful parenting! So, just in case you new readers didn’t know about our parenting book: How to Break 10 Common Childhood Myths …

Here it is  :)

Chad (son) and Diane (mom) wrote the book together to help parents find easier ways to have children who are delightful, respectful, responsible, and eventually independent adults! There are 10 common misbeliefs that kids grab onto and keep forever without a parent’s guide to let go of them. We included lots of stories from our lives…in both of our voices!

Feel free to head to Amazon to find our pretty little book in paperback or on Kindle. It is also available online through Barnes and Noble. It does make a great gift for new parents or grandparents, but also for those with kids anywhere from age 1-18.

For any of you delightful people who already bought one…we express a huge thank you to you. We hope you found the book helpful and enjoyable. Feel free to express your thoughts, good or bad, for others to see.

Christmas gifts anyone??  This is a plug for the book not because of our making any money but because of our love for kids and our hopes for improving future generations!

Thank You, Joanne!

Every now and then something captures your attention…and you say, “Well, that makes sense…I should really do that.”  And then…often…you don’t get around to it….

Reading the blog for Zarate Fitness…see it under his blog at zaratefitness.com….an inspirational idea to recognize someone who helped influence, mold, enlighten your life! I love this idea, so I’m going to run with it!

lovely Joanne

This beautiful lady is Joanne Teague, my friend but also my inspiration. I taught with her when I first began teaching…so much fun. We were separated along the way with different buildings, grade levels, and responsibilities, but remained good friends. Then I was lucky enough to have her, as the principal, hire me to teach in her building.  It was amazing!! What an awesome experience…to work with someone so motivated to do what is best for kids. She is the one who got me involved with the accreditation process including data collection of all sorts, theme building, teamwork always, and working harder than I had ever worked before…and loving every bit of it. She never asked us to do anything that she wasn’t already doing more of…and always with a smile on her face. It was a dream job, and I learned so much more about myself as a person. I became stronger and more knowledgable in all areas, took on more responsibilities than I ever would have thought of, and loved learning about all things..both scholastic and not!!

Joanne and other inspirational folks I know

She was, and is, a beautiful person…who is a role model to all who know her. So in the spirit of this blog, I say:

Thank You, Joanne Teague, for all that you have done for me and for all those who know you!!

Super Saturday #37

Hurray for Super Saturday #37…

Beautiful things, exciting things, inspiring ones…I’ll share with you those things that bring me joy and make me happy!

Here are three things that make me happy:

1) being able to at least try to help teachers in a priority (or failing) school in a district south of here…hard work, many ideas…mostly sharing positive energy! They are overwhelmed and under appreciated … a pretty toxic combination!  Any ideas out there??? Please share:)

2) another photo of the ‘cute’ couple: my mom, almost 94, is looking pretty amazing isn’t she???

and Carl is in such a happy frame of mind …. lovin’ it:))

3) how about another quote to start your day…

“Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine!”

What a great, inspiring quote…you can choose that sunshine for your day, instead of a stormy frame of mind! Give it a try:)

Super Saturday #35

Hurray for Super Saturday #35…

Beautiful things, exciting things, inspiring ones…I’ll share with you those things that bring me joy and make me happy!

Here are three things that make me happy:

1) a first birthday for a little cutie-patootie

2) celebrating my birthday with my favorites:))

burger for me, not the mussels..Cadieux Cafe

with these two lovelies...

and these two lovelies...

3) another quote from my bag of tricks:

“Tell the negative committee that meets in your head to sit down and shut up!”

It’s so easy to listen to that committee instead of setting up your own positive committee. Try, try, try…… :)

Holiday ‘Presence’

Ideas for creating that joy on Christmas morning that we all are longing for….  past post #2:

Now that your children’s gifts to others are taken care of … see previous post… what do you want to do about their gifts from you and from Santa?

If your kids know that you buy them some gifts that you want to be surprises for them, you can give them some tips about not looking around for presents because of the chance of “wrecking the surprise”. If they can learn to delay gratification and wait for surprises, their Christmas mornings will be sooo exciting, and they will have developed a useful character trait.

If they’re not looking for your gifts, they won’t ‘accidentally’ find Santa’s gifts!!!

I had always thought that Chad and Scott didn’t snoop when Christmas came around because they liked to be surprised. Wrong!! I just discovered that…instead… they were nervous that if they found  surprise gifts we wouldn’t let them have them!! I’m sure we never said that exactly, but they could tell from our voices that snooping was not a good thing.

If you want Santa to last…always keep separate wrapping paper, labels, bows – only to be used by Santa. At our house, Santa wrapped some gifts and left others unwrapped by the tree – and other unwrapped trinkets in the Christmas stockings. Last minute wrapping of Santa’s gifts is always a great idea.

It’s less confusing if all family gifts are wrapped ahead of time with the whole family involved (and in our house put away until Christmas Eve). So all you need to be concerned with on Christmas Eve after the children go to bed is wrapping Santa’s gifts and arranging the presents under the tree.

whether the presents are wrapped by Mom and Dad
or by Santa
or left unwrapped by Santa
or packages from friends and families

Make sure your kids appreciate each gift individually. More to come in Part 3!!

If you do appreciate the idea of giving, whether through Santa or through another avenue, planning ahead of time is always important. Family values come first!!
